Imagination can’t create anything new, can it? It only recycles bits and pieces from the world and reassembles them into visions. So when we think we’ve escaped the unbearable ordinariness and, well, untruthfulness of our lives, it’s really only the same old ordinariness and falseness rearranged into the appearance of novelty and truth. Nothing unknown is knowable.
Harper, Angels In America
ok, so i just watched chasing amy. it’s good. and then i did a rant on my tumblr.
it’s a good movie, hits up on a lot of good points.
i also watched paper cut. that’s not quite as good, but it’s still good. and watching it renewed my love for the band elysian fields. i also posted on that.
there a line in the lyrics, “how common of me not to rise above…”
i feel like that is the sentiment that we must wrestle. no one wants to be just like everyone else. no one wants to be limited by their humanity. and no one likes the idea of being second-rate, easy to replace. the impetus is on each individual to find a place in which they can meet odds, if not exceed them. it’s everyone’s job to make sure that they are remembered. and the stress of not being common is wearing on my generation in ways that i’m sure no one could have imagined.
t-minus 37 days and counting…
