holding steady.™

i have finished setting up the mini-simple sites for my pet projects (a podcast called many boxes & a photo studio called big day).

all i will say is this: check out the links at the bottom of the home page of knowledgik.net in the next couple of days..

there is something about a clear afternoon that really allows everything to fall into place, and exist in a way that lets your perspective expand. and no, i don’t happen to be talking about drugs…it’s just shaping out to be an uncharacteristically nice and clear day.

i found out that my husband has successfully obtained his residency status, courtesy of the US department of homeland security/immigration. that’s one of those things that really kept he and i up at night, and the idea of him not being around, as per deportation to venezuela, is sort of terrifying. that may have been part of what has contributed to the day’s niceness.

i’m making strides with the website. it’s an abysmally slow process for me to get a website together. this will make something like my eighth attempt. i’ve been thinking lately about why it never came together in the ways that i would have appreciated.

• for one thing, i’ve never had any kind of formal introduction to code-writing. the first thing i ever understood about code i picked up from mini html tutorials through lycos/angelfire and the bit of CSS that you have to learn to customize your livejournal.
• i’ve never had decent software, since i was working on some version of windows up until two years ago. (i’m currently using ecto to manage my wordpress entries, and coda for the site. plus i’ve got the adobe creative suite at my disposal to take care of all my image editing needs)
• i also think i needed to mature and realize what i wanted to use my site to express (i cannot credit the personal website of chris glass enough for helping me to figure this out.)

this is what i’ve been thinking about. i think i should have everything planned and uploaded by like july. i wanted to go to key west, and then take a trip up to new york city to look for a place that month. so i should be done by then.

i though it might be nice to keep (in a safe place) a running tally of all the crap i’m clearing off the old mac. ‘old’ is a relative term, my baby is only a year and a half. but i seem to have accumulated a lot of unnecessaries.
for instance, in the system preferences pane category, we have:

synergy
afloat
stoplight
flip4mac
a better finder
menuet
witch (i may end up keeping this, since i did like it in theory)
unplugged
warp

more substantive updates coming soon. been meaning to update to wordpress 2.7 (re: last post) but life has some things it need(ed)s me to do first.

to upgrade to wordpress 2.7
