The smoky haze of early morning fog transcends

From the water and lays out like a blanket over the city.

Mangy dogs that seem to travel in packs traverse

The streets as if they were the owner.

Shoddy chunky asphalt peeks up in the streets,

An example of mountainous terrain in a place that sits at sea level.

The salty air of the bay sweeps in, spreading the

Thick grey fog around, like a knife spreads icing across a cake.

A bright green lizard, the length of a man’s shoe,

Creeps down from the upper branches of

Near artificial faun, trans-planted in front of one

Of many dark steel structures, skyscrapers that don’t quite reach the sky.

Living in the city that is my home is a blessing and a curse.
